BMRT: Bachelor of Radiotherapy Technology 

Radiotherapy, also known as Radiation Therapy, is the treatment of cancer and other diseases with ionizing radiation. This professional degree provides students with theory to practice and tailor the treatment the patient by accurately targeting the high dose of radiation beams and sparing surrounding normal tissue  

Seats: 40 

Duration: 6 Semesters + 6 Month Internship 

Eligibility: 10+2 or equivalent in Science Group (PCB)

Responsibilities of a Radiation therapists are as follows:

  • Explain treatment plans to the patient and answer the questions about treatment.
  • Follow safety procedures to protect the patient and themselves from overexposure to radiation.
  • Examine machines to make sure they are safe and working properly.
  • X-ray patients to determine the exact location of the area requiring treatment.
  • Check computer programmes to make sure the machines will give the correct dose of the appropriate area of the patient’s body.
  • Operate the machine to check for unusual reaction to the treatment.
  • Keep detailed records of treatment.

SCOPE OF BMRIT:

Radiation therapists work in the hospital or in cancer treatment centres. Growth is likely to be rapid across all practicing fields, including hospitals, physician’s office and outpatient centres.
Since cancer has spread its deadly wings, the number of cancer patients are increasing day by day.
As a result the demand for skilled radiotherapists is also increasing gradually. Further higher studies can also be pursued after completion.
